Tallook: A Guide To Tall Fashion

Tallook: A Guide To Tall Fashion

Tall Look, Nache Snow

I had the pleasure of interviewing the founder of Tallook, Nache Snow. Her blog specializes in the hottest season’s fashions specifically tailored for long and tall Sally’s like us. In a world where women with bigger feet have to choose from the leftover’s of the fashion fiesta it’s important to look out for one another and stay up on vogue. Nache’ keeps readers up to date on haute couture stores that cater to tall girl’s needs and gives daily tips on the perfect way to wear clothes and shoes for you. I was really inspired by her blog so I thought it only fitting to ask where Nache’s inspirations come from and find out a little bit more about the genius behind Tallook.

1) The world of blogging can be really competitive. What jump-started you into creating Tallook?

I started Tallook in March of 2010. That was right around the time fashion blogs began to get some traction. At that time, while out, I often had other talls ask me questions like: Where did you find jeans that long?  Where do you shop?

So I knew there was a need for a website that housed this information.

There were only one or two active tall bloggers, and I thought, maybe I can fill the void by sharing my fashion finds with other talls.

2) What everyday inspirations do you find in your blog?

I get my inspiration from everywhere. I have a graphic design background so I am also looking for textures, colors, and patterns that will look awesome in my designs, home, and clothes. My blog post are often inspired by my Pinterest finds. I always get ideas for different ways to mix and match clothes. Pinterest also gives me an indication of what’s in season and what people are looking for.

3) What's your prediction for upcoming footwear trends for the 2015 season?

One word, floral. I’ve seen so many variations of floral shoes this season. I predict that we’re going to see more of it. I even have an article featuring cute floral pointed shoes I picked up, making that my second pair.

4) Top 3 favorite shoe designers and why?

I love the Long Tall Sally’s brand of shoes. The fit and quality is awesome. Normally I can’t wear pointed shoes without them hurting after awhile, but I can where LTS’s all day long.

My second favorite brand is James Campbell. I love the funky style of this brand. When you can find them in large sizes it’s such a treasure.

Lastly, Franco Sarto. This brand makes the perfect stylish work shoe.

5) Can you give us some style tips for dressing up shoes that you believe all fashionistas should know?

If it’s a really cute shoe you have to show it off. That’s when I’ll pull out my ankle pants. If the shoes are cute enough people will realize I’m not flooding!

Another tip—let the shoe shine. If I have on some really bright red shoes for instance, I may wear all black or tan so the first thing people see are my shoes. I don’t care that I have big feet, I will show my shoes off.

6) What's your perspective on the struggle that women with larger feet face in today's fashion world?

Affordable options are the number one struggle. Everyone else can go to the mall and pick up some cute flats in less than 30 minute for $30. We have to order online and hope that (1) there are some cute options available and (2) that they fit.

7) How did growing up with larger feet impact your confidence as a young women? How did you overcome that barrier?

Ugh, it was a struggle and going to high school dances was the worst. I had big clunky shoes on where as all my friends had these cute pumps or stilettos. I never feel “pretty enough” because you couldn’t achieve the look I was going for. My shoes and outfits were never really my style, they were what was available.

I overcame it by “owning” the look. When my friends would make fun of my shoes or just have smart comments I would say what are you talking about … these are hot! I didn’t make excuses I just worked with what I had. As I got older more options became available, but it’s still a struggle. I was taught by my mom to stand tall and believe in yourself and that has been what’s carried me through.

8) What message would you give to young girls that have larger feet and are struggling with their own confidence?

Don’t hide them and don’t be ashamed of them. You know how people and animals can sense fear? People can also sense weakness and low self-esteem and often take advantage. If you believe in yourself and make the declaration that you won’t let other people’s comments or stares hurt you—you will be unstoppable. What will happen is they probably will be less likely to make those comments or in your response they’ll realize what they say can’t hurt you. It goes back to loving yourself and not being influenced by others.

9) How do you think Lonia sets themselves apart from other shoe brands?

Lonia is definitely on trend and gives big foot women an opportunity to look fabulous at events. The colors and patterns really make the shoe.

10) I know you think that all Lonia shoe are fab I mean who doesn't haha but if you had to choose a pair to wear everyday of the week which ones would you wear?

I love the Ethnic Print Flat. As a tall woman I believe we can and should rock heels, but for me I am always on the go so cute flats are a must. This flat has a cute gold tip, yellow sole, and an awesome ethnic pattern to bring it all together. I could rock it with a business suit or a maxi dress.

11) I have to say that I absolutely love the Tall Pledge. What values and encouragements do you want women and girls to really take from it?

Thanks! I wrote that because I wanted every tall gal that came to my site to stop settling for less. There is no excuse to not be fashionable, don’t settle for “ok” shoes or an “ok” wardrobe. Make an effort to wear clothes that represent you.

I also want people to be vocal. I often write to companies and ask them if and when they will sell my shoe size or carry clothes in taller sizes. I want them to know that they are missing a market. If more of us do it then maybe the industry will start to care.

12) What hopes do you have for the fashion industry in the future?

I hope that we can be better represented in the mall because sometimes you really need to pick up an outfit or pair of shoes at the last minute. I also hope tall clothing and shoe vendor’s keep up with the trends so talls or big-footed women can wear the items they see in magazines or Pinterest.

As a tiny tall I can say Nache’s message is the absolute truth! Whether you are a tiny tall, a midsize tall ,or a super tall girls and women alike everywhere no matter what you look like should take the Tall Pledge. We are more than just long limbs, heights, and shoes sizes and we sure aren’t ashamed. Tallook is a perfect example of the new age that’s about to take the industry by storm.I look forward to seeing what will come from Tallook next and Lonia’s new line of footwear dropping this fall!

Paris Spring/Summer Fashion Week has opened with a bang.

Of course the best part of Paris Fashion Week isn’t the runways shows themselves , but rather the fashion worn by the attendees. This week Paris is bound to be star studded as celebs from all over the world step out and dazzle the masses. I picked a few of my favorite large footed starlets that I thought wore their shoes in an a la mode way.

Tyra Banks: Through The Years

Tyra Banks: Through The Years

Tyra Banks has been an inspiration to millions of girls across the world for years. Not only is she the creator and host of popular television show “America’s Next Top Model” she also holds the title of former supermodel, talk show host, author, actress, producer and many more. Declaring her a true renaissance woman Tyra has turned her runway success into a multi-media empire. Today we see Tyra as a beautiful, tall, sassy, and fiercely confident success but it was not always that easy her road to success started as a bumpy one.

During Tyra’s childhood she encountered many social pressures from her peers that caused her to experience highs and lows in self esteem. She was the popular girl next door, the one everyone wanted to be, and a mini Regina George with a mean clique to match. Well that is until mother nature knocking came with her little friend named puberty. As soon as Tyra entered high school she became experienced the exact opposite popularity and became bottom of the social food chain. Ridiculed and taunted because of her newly found growth spurt Tyra recalls "I went from being the popular girl who looked normal, to being considered a freak."  Regardless of the cruelty exhibited by her classmates Tyra said it taught her important lessons on kindness and says "It turned out that the best things [to happen to me] in my life were to be made fun of, and to have no friends, and to feel miserable every single day.".

By the time she reached 17 the awkward teenage phase had passed. She now resembled the Victoria Secret’s Angel that everyone would soon know her to be and had learned to embrace her larger than life looks. Her first attempts at finding a modeling agency were less than successful, she was met with rejection and discrimination a little deja vu from her less than glamourous early high school years.  Banks remembers that one agency said she looked "too ethnic" and another said that it "already had a black woman and didn't want another." Then in 1990 when hope was almost lost Tyra received a contract with Elite Model Management, one of the biggest modeling agencies in the world. Her career took off from there and she did  her first shoot for the cover of Seventeen Magazine. During the early years of Tyra Banks's career she decided to take a risk and move to Paris. Banks quickly experienced overwhelming success and quickly surpassed expectations set for models new to the industry. She booked over 25 runway shows in one season instantly crowning her the model to look out for.

Growing up Tyra was taught to have an appreciation for food and gained 20-30 pounds because of it. Unfortunately back in the 90’s it was an unspoken rule that if you modeled you were forbidden to gain weight. Thin models walked the runways, graced the cover of magazines, and were the faces of fashion houses around the world. Her modeling agency then showed her a list of designers that didn’t want to book her because she was too curvy. Unwilling to starve herself and conform to the impossible standards set by the industry Banks returned to the United States 2o pounds heavier to pursue a career in swimwear and lingerie modeling. This move became the one that changed Tyra’s career and life forever and brought her to the supermodel status she owns today.

Tyra soon began pioneering the world of women’s modeling. She became the first African American woman to grace the cover of GQ, one of the original Victoria Secret’s Angels, and sold more bras and panties than any other model who had ever posed for the brand. She also had very lucrative careers with Sport’s Illustrated and Cover Girl. Not only was Tyra a heavily sought after supermodel but she was also a successful actor making several appearance on Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Love & Basketball, Coyote Ugly, Gossip Girl, and starred in her very own movie Life Sized.

Moving away from the modeling and acting scene Tyra took on the role of host and producer. In 2003 Tyra created the hit show America’s Next Top Model, a reality show geared toward aspiring models, and hosted her own talk show The Tyra Show in 2005. One of her talk show’s most notable moments was when some unflattering pics of her surfaced on the web and she marched across stage in the same bathing suit and told the media to “Kiss my fat booty!” I say more power to you girl! In 2010 she said farewell to her talk show in order to focus on promoting positive messages to women across the world. Tyra’s biggest cause is ensuring that there are healthy standards set in the modeling industry and developing girl’s who have positive outlooks on body images.

Over the years Tyra’s personal life has been put under a magnifying glass by the media constantly being observed by the public eye and judgment unfortunately is something that she’s used to. She’s been constantly ridiculed over weight gain and many other appearance “issues”, but through it all Tyra has become a stronger woman because of it. In a recent interview the supermodel that sports a size 11.5 shoe saidI realize now that failure is just as valuable as success. I’ve had failures that made me want to shrink under my bedcovers for days and feel sorry for myself, like my world was crumbling around me. In the end, I learned from each failure. I am a true believer that if you’re not experiencing failure in your work life or business, you’re playing it too safe. Shake it up. Take a risk. Without struggle, your success will be marginal.”

Tyra’s story is truly inspirational and whether you’re a girl struggling with her confidence, hurting from failure or rejection, or if you’re trying to follow in Tyra’s same footsteps we can all identify with some part of her story. We should keep our heads held high regardless of the negativity thrown at us everyday because it only takes one yes one piece of positivity to make a world of difference.

Have a great day Lovelies!

4 Ways to Clean Your Fab Suede

Making A Statement with Flats

Making A Statement with Flats

Flats are perfect. Their versatility allows them to be worn with jeans, dress pants, shirts, and shorts. They’re one essential that everyone should have in their wardrobe.  But they’re not generally focuses on as the center of an outfit, until now.

Flats are the perfect fashion accessory to make a statement. This can be easily obtained by wearing bold, colorful, or printed flats that can pull together a simple outfit.

Opt for a more basic outfit, such as jeans and a simple tee; pull this look together with a neon flat or pointy toe flat that gives your feet definition.

Always choose flats that fit. This is the most important thing to keep in mind. Flats that are too small can cause damage to toes and create unnecessary blisters and scaring. Flats that are too large can easily slid off and can also create blisters.

Choosing the Right Pair of Heels

Choosing the Right Pair of Heels

Choosing the Right Boot

Choosing the Right Boot

Choosing the right boot can be difficult. There are so many shapes, sizes, and cuts that they all start looking the same after a while.

Here are a few tips for finding the right cut for you:

Height

Your height and the height of the boot go hand in hand. If you’re shorter than don’t go for boots that are higher than your knee. They’ll make you look even smaller. If you’re taller, go for boots that will match your height.

Leg Shape

If you have a wide calf (which is perfectly fine and normal) then go for boots that actually fit. Don’t try your hardest to have your foot fit into those Hunter rain boots, if they don’t actually fit. There is nothing worse that having to ask your friend to help take your shoe off, because you can’t. Make sure you can properly zip up or take off your boot. To make sure you have room, see if you can fit at least 1-2 finger between the boot and your calf.

Wiggle Room

When trying on boots, think of what socks you might be wearing in the colder months. Take into account the amount of room for your toes and if needed, go for the next size up. You don’t want the time to come around and you realize that your feet are a little too snug. Also, if your feet tend to swell, account for that as well.

Happy shopping!

#Shoefie: The Art of Shoe Selfies

#Shoefie: The Art of Shoe Selfies

Sometimes our outfits, particularly our shoe game, are just too on point to not share with the world. Below are some tips on how to take the best shoe selfie, so that you can make all your Instagram and Twitter followers jealous with your perfectly-pictured fancy footwear.

Butt Out!

To get that perfect shoe shot, it is imperative that you stick out your tush. While it seems (and feels) odd, it actually gets your knees out of the shot, leaving a perfect aerial view of your cool kicks.

Background Check

Nothing ruins a selfie like an ugly wall or-gasp!-gum on the sidewalk. Look for clean floors or walls so that your shoes stand out. Want to up your game? Scout out some cool patterned backgrounds to give your shoes some extra pop. Brick sidewalks, tiled walls, fountains, and gardens are popular shoe selfie sites.

Lights, Camera, Selfie!

Nothing ruins a shoe selfie better than the glare from the flash on your fabulous patent leather pumps! Always make sure you have great lighting when taking a pic. Daytime is the best time to snap some cool shoe shots. However, if you are dying to take a pic of your nighttime kicks, make sure the flash is turned off so your pictures aren’t grainy or washed out.

Toe the Line

Nothing is more distracting than chipped toenail polish in an otherwise perfect shoe selfie. Before you show off your shoe game to the world, make sure your nail polish isn’t chipped or smudged. Or, you can always go au natural and leave the nail polish at home. Either way, your shoes will stand out and you will look put together and polished-no pun intended!

Clean Slate

Much like the toe nail polish, nothing ruins a selfie more than a scuff mark on patent leather, or dirt caked up on your Nikes. Ensure that your shoes are clean and mark-free before you pull out the camera.

Strike a Pose

Don’t just stand at attention! Have some fun with your shoe selfies. Cross your ankles to show off your dainty kitten heels, or turn one foot to the side to show off your shoe’s cool details. Play around and see which poses show off your shoes best. However, unless you’re showing off Christian Louboutin’s, leave the soles of your shoes out of sight.

Lastly…

Wear cute shoes and have fun!

Shine Bright Like A Diamond

Shine Bright Like A Diamond

Shoes can do so much for an outfit. From providing comfort to being a statement piece, they can accomplish so much.

That’s why sparkly shoes are all the rage. They offer support and they pull together an outfit. It’s not just heels. This isn’t prom, so you don’t have to go for the shiny heels. Look into trying

on flats, boots (with some type of sparkle), and sneakers (like the oxfords pictured.)

Go for shoes that are a little more expensive and have a durable shine and shimmer. You don’t want to lose the sparkle everywhere or find yourself covered in glitter.

Fall 2015 Shoes

Fall 2015 Shoes

Summer may be over, but that only means its closer to the official start of Fall. Fall means one thing: fall fashion and shoes.

From the runway to your closet, here are some great things to take in when shopping for the perfect fall shoe.

Metallics

A cute black bootie with a gold or silver heel is elegant and tasteful. It’s both edgy and trendy while promoting comfort and style.

Lace Up

Boots and heels this season all seem to have one major thing in common: laces. Look for boots and heels that combine the use or look of laces. Its school girl means fashionista.

Bows and Glitter

Like any season approaching the winter months, be prepared to see glitz and glam in your local shoe department. Shoes that are adorned in glitter are adorable and you can’t go wrong with a cute bow to pull together a sophisticated look.

Thigh High

Boots can reach the sky or better yet the thighs. Look for boots that come up higher than normal and can be worn with jeans (look for extra room) or with a skirt or dress.
