Our feet can take a beating throughout the day. Many of us are walking the daily recommended 10,000 steps. Some of us are squeezing them into three-inch heels, running in marathons, lifting them inside heavy boots, and even wearing the wrong shoe size. Our feet carry all of our body weight, and we’re on them twelve hours or more a day. Not only that but taking care of your precious feet can prevent health conditions later on. Is it too much to ask to give them a little pampering once in a while? I think not.

Wash your Feet and Dry Daily

It may sound like common sense but even though you may shower daily, taking the time to wash your feet with mild soap and dry them properly will prevent foot odor, bacteria, and fungus growth later on. For an extra pampering, soak them in warm water for 5 -10 minutes or give them a quick exfoliating massage. Now, doesn’t that sound nice?

Moisturize and Repeat

Slather on moisturizer on calluses or dry skin, then cover with light socks overnight. Soon your feet should be feeling soft and looking good. Then keep up the good work to retain the softness to your skin. Your feet will thank you for it.

Wear the Correct Shoe Size

Wearing shoes too small can cause bunions or alter the shape of your feet. Ouch. Take the initiative to have your foot measured by a professional. Often the pros know what’s better for your feet than you do. The wrong shoe can cause a world of hurt to your feet and inflict unnecessary pain.

Clip your Toe Nails (the right way)

Clip your toenails straight across to prevent ingrown toenails. Should you get an ingrown toenail, not only do those hurt, but you’ll have to go to the doctor to have them removed.

Protect, Protect, Protect

If you wear sandals or walk barefoot, apply sunscreen for protection when outdoors. Continue soaking your feet and moisturizing weekly. It’s not a happy thought, but bacteria loves to spread in pedicure salons. So if you do frequent foot spas, make sure you have no open cuts that can spread or collect bacteria.

We may take our feet for granted, that it’s their job to take you places. Just like a car, you’re going to take care of the engine and give it checkups. Same goes for your precious feet. Pamper your feet in order for them to be healthy and vibrant and always available to get you where you want to go.
